AI Tennis Coach: a trainer who reads your game

Can artificial intelligence make you a better tennis player? Yes — if it acts like a coach, not an oracle. Nadia is the personal tennis coach inside NAIARA, the app with 54 specialised AI agents, and she works the way a good club coach does: she builds your plan around your level, hand, backhand type, surface and available days; structures every session shot by shot, from warm-up to cool-down; teaches you to construct points with court geometry and serve+1 patterns; and rounds it out with tennis-specific fitness — footwork, core, prehab for shoulder, elbow and calf — plus the mental routines that decide tight matches. Firm on technique, warm in manner, and health always first: if something hurts, she tells you to stop and see a professional. Every ball counts — and with a plan behind it, it counts double.

The problem: playing a lot isn't training

Most club players have been stuck at the same level for years — not for lack of hours, but for lack of structure. You play matches, you rally, and you repeat the same mistakes with more confidence each season: the slice backhand you use for everything, the second serve that's an open invitation, the forehand that sails long exactly when it matters. Private lessons help, but at typical hourly rates few people can afford the two or three weekly sessions real improvement demands. Between lessons, nobody tells you what to train or how. The result is the classic club player: plenty of court time, zero direction, and an elbow starting to complain because nobody ever checked the technique or the gear behind it.

How training with Nadia works

You give her your starting point: "Right-handed, two-handed backhand, clay twice a week, my forehand flies long whenever I go for it." Nadia comes back with a plan that has names on it: what to work each day, with which drills, and which cue to keep in your head ("finish with the shoulder, not the wrist"). After each session you debrief and she adjusts. This is where multimodal shines: film your serve from the back fence and send her the video so she can flag the fault, or snap a photo of your racket and string job so she can tell you whether that tension is doing your elbow any favours. Before a match, you review the plan together against that opponent who feeds on your high backhand.

What Nadia actually does

  • Your tennis plan: by level, hand, backhand type, surface and days — court work and fitness up to your peak.
  • Training, shot by shot: warm-up, main block and cool-down, with cues and the typical mistake for each drill.
  • Point construction: court geometry, serve+1 patterns, reading your opponent, singles and doubles tactics.
  • Tennis fitness: footwork, explosiveness, core and prehab for shoulder, elbow and calf, tuned to surface and gear.
  • Head and pressure: between-point routines and the point-by-point mindset that decides tight sets.
  • Gear for your elbow: racket, strings and shoes for your level — and if what you have works, she says so instead of pushing you to buy.

What Nadia doesn't do

Nadia isn't across the net from you. She can't watch your stroke live (though a video gets her close), so an in-person coach remains the best investment for fine corrections, especially on the serve. She doesn't promise ranking jumps in X weeks either — improvement depends on your court hours, starting point and consistency. And the most important line, which she repeats herself: with persistent pain — elbow, shoulder, knee — you stop and see a doctor or physiotherapist. AI can help you prevent trouble with prehab and sensible gear, but it doesn't diagnose injuries. Playing through pain "to see if it passes" is the classic way to lose a whole season.

How to start

Download Naiara, open Nadia's chat and introduce your game: honest level, hand, backhand, usual surface, available days and the stroke that haunts you. Five minutes later you have your first week's plan. If rackets are your thing, the sports family runs deeper: the AI and sports hub introduces all 13 agents, including the AI padel coach and the AI squash coach for the other racket addictions, and the AI personal trainer to build your physical base off the court.

FAQ

Can an AI really work as a tennis coach?

It can build your plan by level, hand, backhand, surface and days; structure every session; and correct technique from your description or a video. It doesn't replace court hours or a live coach's eye.

How can AI help me improve my serve?

Film yourself and show Nadia. She spots the classic fault — inconsistent toss, late pronation — and gives you cues plus a drill progression, then serve+1 patterns so the serve starts the point.

What fitness work does an amateur tennis player need?

Footwork, lateral explosiveness, core and prehab for shoulder, elbow and calf. Nadia adapts it to your surface and gear and splits it between court and home days.

Can it help with tennis elbow?

With prevention, yes: prehab and elbow-friendly gear. If you already have pain, Nadia says it straight: stop and see a doctor or physio. An AI doesn't diagnose injuries.

Is AI useful for match tactics and the mental game?

Very: court geometry, patterns against awkward opponents, doubles tactics and between-point routines for pressure. Like reviewing the plan with someone in your corner.
